Collaborative Leadership

We use our model of Collaborative Leadership as a development guide for leaders of all levels.  It is a simple framework for looking at the three essential aspects of what leaders actually do:

Scan
Effective leaders continuously scan and interpret the world around them, making sense of changing and often ambiguous environments. This includes cultural and quantitative factors, long and short term issues, internal stakeholders and external partners.

Relate
Leaders need to establish and develop effective relationships with people both inside and outside the organisation. Skilled interaction balances the needs and wants of all parties, combining assertiveness with openness.

Act
Delivery of outcomes ultimately depends on leaders having the skills to make sound decisions, manage implementation and bring about effective performance in others.

All three essentials are observable.  We have developed a 360° feedback tool, the Collaborative Leadership Inventory (CLI), available online. Contact us if you would like to use this in your own organization.

Our model also includes a fourth, non-observable essential:

Insight
Awareness of self and situation is both a prerequisite and an outcome for effective leadership and collaboration
